Property Details

Enjoy the unique setting and luxurious amenities in this home, a remarkable opportunity to soak up some of Niagara-on-the-Lake history. Perfectly suited for a couple, the upper floor has a private bedroom with a King size bed, private bathroom with shower and intimate seating area. The ground floor has a full kitchen, dining room, living room with Queen size pull-out bed, bathroom with tub and french doors opening out to the back garden. A spectacular highlight of the home is the back garden which sits on the banks of the Niagara River, offering views directly across the border to Fort Niagara in the US.

This historic residence, The Foghorn Station, was a semi-industrial structure built in 1904 by the Department of Marine and Fisheries Canada and operated as a warning signal for marine vessels. It remains as one of the very few original structures of its kind still standing in the country.

It is a shingle or Colonial style of architecture, popular at the turn of the century, housing heavy machinery including air pumps and fog alarm until decommissioned in 1978. The building was then converted to residential use by the station keeper who also operated the two dock area lighthouse.

The property was acquired by the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake in 1982 and is an excellent example of adaptive re-use of an industrial building for residential purposes.

After extensive renovations, the Niagara Foundation, stewards of Niagara-on-the-Lake's heritage for almost 50 years, is proud to offer the opportunity to enjoy a unique experience in this true heritage gem.

This property has 1 Queen(s), 1 Pull Out Sofa(s).

Beatiful by Anonymous 07/26/2017
The town was beautiful, very nice. Majority of dining experiences were excellent, nice variety of options. Nice shops, nice people. We appreciated the free parking in certain areas as well.
Good by Anonymous 01/27/2017
It would be good for the town to install more sidewalks - e.g. along Mississauga to accommodate more walking. It would be good for the town to maintain (clear snow) from its pathways in winter - again to accommodate walking and bicycling

Okay by Anonymous 10/16/2016
My accommodations were ok, but they had a cable/internet/phone outage at the rental home. It was unfortunate.
